Dr. Emer MacSweeney is a world-renowned expert in brain and mind health, including the diagnosis and available treatments for Alzheimer’s disease, as well as CTE.
She is the co-founder, CEO, and medical director of Re:Cognition Health, which provides a specialist service for the accurate diagnosis and treatment of progressive neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental conditions, as well as traumatic brain injury. The company has 10 centers across the US and the UK where patients can receive a diagnosis, participate in global clinical trials for new diagnostic biomarkers and emerging medications, and access available treatment options for symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease.
Dr. MacSweeney has been involved from the early days of clinical trials for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease symptoms and was the first clinician in Europe to administer Amyloid Targeting Therapy (ATT) drug Kinsula to patients outside of a clinical trial. The Re:Cognition Health team has administered more than 12,500 doses of ATT medications and is one of, if not the, largest providers of these therapies in Europe.
In addition to her clinical and research leadership, Dr. MacSweeney is a sought-after speaker at global conferences, is frequently quoted in international media, and has two TEDx Talks focused on Alzheimer’s disease and CTE which have garnered millions of views on YouTube.
Previously, she served as Director of Neuroradiology at Atkinson Morley’s Hospital, St George’s Healthcare Trust, and Managing Director at MedTel UK. Dr. MacSweeney has a special interest in the neuroradiology of cognitive impairment disorders with considerable experience in imaging of neurovascular diseases and traumatic brain injury.
She trained in neuroradiology at The Hospital of Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen’s Square, specializing in interventional vascular neuroradiology, and spent time on a scholarship at Harvard University.
